The objective of WP3 is to develop and integrate sensor modules for measuring and monitoring crucial parameters of working environment of the end-users (i.e. fire fighters, chemical and mine rescuer). The most important environmental parameters for the safety of those rescuers are external temperature, concentration level of oxygen (O2) as well as concentration level of dangerous gases: CO, CO2, CH4, Cl2, H2S, NH3.
Activities within this WP will include the analysis of the state-of-the-art sensors available on the market, research on adjustment/calibration of selected sensors in order to improve their functionality in emergency conditions (detection limits, response time), and initial development of technology for their integration with PPE elements (e.g. garments textiles or harness of respiratory protective equipment - Self Contained Breathing Apparatus SCBA). Suitable technologies assuring integration of sensors into textiles will be developed and dedicated prototypes of three types of garments will be manufactured. The activities within WP3 will also include a preliminary study on communication between developed sensor modules with communication unit to be developed within WP4.
The following outcomes are expected:
- prototypes of sensor modules for measuring concentration level of O2, CO, CO2, CH4, Cl2, H2S, NH3 as well as of external temperature;
- software for sensors adjustment and calibration (to be implemented and transformed to microprocessor of communication unit);
- model of PPE elements with integrated sensor modules for environmental parameters measurement.
