The fact that humans belong to warm-blooded organisms does not mean that the temperature in the place of their stay has no impact on the functioning on human body. This is important in particular AT the working site, where inappropriate thermal conditions may impact not only the effectiveness of work but also its safety and, in particular, the number and consequences of accidents at work.
Basic OSH problems in small construction companies Andrzej Dąbrowski
This paper presents the results of investigations of small Polish construction plants in provinces with a high accident rate. The results, together with construction experts’ opinions, concern essential OSH problems, e.g., cooperation with the general contractor, OSH records, identification of hazards and risk assessment, organization of work, technical protective equipment against hazards, training workers as well as the use of machines and devices. This paper also considers the complexity of the operation of small construction plants within OSH and the influence of other spheres of life on these enterprises. It points out the need for preventive actions involving not only these enterprises but also other participants of the construction process as well as other institutions, e.g., those creating systems of training for construction workers or establishing law.

Citizens often see the police and their work from the perspective of what the media show. We have high expectations but the actual possibilities are not as great as those of fictional officers. The police are one of the largest Polish employers. Every year, 35,000 candidates apply to join the police force. Only 1 in 7 is successful. Public opinion surveys generally focus on police work, perceived public safety, crime threat, etc. However, there are few studies in which police officers can comment on their anxiety at and after work. Young people who begin their occupational journey are more exposed to accidents at work than other employees, mainly due to their lack of experience and knowledge. Therefore, prevention is necessary. Literature in social psychology clearly shows that young people''s incorrect behaviours result from their childhood, when they learnt how to perceive the world surrounding them and when they were influenced by people around them. This article discusses the problem of shaping safe behaviours in children in primary schools through educational art competitions.
Accidents at work by victims' age and tenure Szymon Ordysiński
In this article statistical data, concerning age and tenure of persons injured in accidents at work, which were registered by Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) with the use of “Accident Statistical Card”, have been presented and analyzed. The frequency distribution of accidents at work and incidence rate were analysed regarding persons’ injured age and tenure. Causes, courses and consequences of accidents at work in particular age groups were also analyzed.
